Service Overview & DASSP Compliance

Following the September 11, 2001 events, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued strict mandates requiring an onboard Armed Security Officer for all general aviation (GA) and private charter flights operating to or from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

If your departure or arrival originates at Teterboro Airport (TEB) or Westchester County Airport (HPN) and connects to DCA, federal law requires a certified ASO on board.

Does Your Flight Require an ASO?

  • Direct Flights To/From DCA: Mandatory. Every private or corporate flight touching DCA must carry a TSA-badged ASO per the DASSP framework.

  • TSA-Approved Corporate Security Programs: Mandatory when specified. Operations under tailored TSA security protocols or specialized risk-mitigation agreements.

Officer Qualifications & Credentials

  • Every Armed Security Officer deployed to your aircraft meets or exceeds federal criteria under 49 U.S.C. 44903(d):

    1. Law Enforcement Experience: Active, retired, or former U.S. law enforcement officers with a minimum of four years of sworn operational experience.

    2. Federal Air Marshal Training: Completion of the specialized 2-day TSA/Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) instructional curriculum and ongoing firearms requalification.

    3. Federal Credentials: Direct TSA ASO Authorization Number (Note: Standard LEOSA / HR-218 concealed carry or state armed security licenses alone do not fulfill federal DASSP onboard flight mandates).

    4. Insider Threat Training: DHS-certified instruction in threat detection, behavior analysis, and in-flight emergency response.

    5. Vetted Citizenship & Clearance: U.S. citizenship with rigorous background and security clearances.
